AFL Helps Stock MTCC's Food Pantry
06/08/2008
Spartanburg, SC - AFL in Duncan hosted a canned food drive in support of the Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC) and District 5 Family Ministries. Understanding the difficulties of keeping pantries stocked during summer months, Deborah James, an AFL associate, suggested that AFL pull together a food drive to help out.
"With children home during the summer months, the need for non-perishable items increase," said Deborah. "With the Middle Tyger Community Center so close by to our facilities, I wanted to help."
AFL associates began the project early in July and collected all month. A box truck loaded with supplies made the delivery on Monday morning, August 4. Items provided included cereals, rice, boxed meals, and canned items, but also included individual snacks needed by children in the area.
"The timing couldn’t be any better!" said Lyn Turner, District 5 Family Ministries Case Manager. "Families stop by and we aren’t able to offer what they need. Sometimes we have to send them to other non-profits. We’re very thankful to AFL’s associates for their generous donation!"
AFL associates have assisted the Community Center on many other occasions including a Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas Sharing Tree which provides gifts to young children in the area.
