AFL Volunteers Plant Over 50 Trees/Bushes to Commemorate SC Arbor Day

AFL partnered with the Greenville County Recreation District (GCRD) planting over 50 trees and bushes indigenous to the South Carolina area on Arbor Day, Saturday, December 1. This marks the sixth year in a row that AFL has partnered with GCRD to plant trees and bushes in Greenville County.

Part of AFL’s Take Root program, 18 AFL volunteers plus friends and family came out in support of the effort. From planting trees to spreading mulch, weeding to watering, volunteers contributed 70 hours of time enhancing the surrounding area in front of the Swamp Rabbit Café and Grocery next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

"We are honored to be a part of restoration efforts along the Swamp Rabbit Trail,” stated Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. “We hope that many passersby who use the trail daily are able to enjoy the scenery for many years to come.”

AFL has a goal to plant 12,000 trees by 2015 under the Take Root initiative. Throughout the year, AFL hosts Take Root events on its worldwide campuses and with organizations in communities where AFL has facilities. AFL’s extensive Community Outreach Program provides many opportunities to connect with its local communities and encourages associates to volunteer for activities throughout the year.
