AFL Expands Fiber Inspection Family with WiFi-based Solution

Lowell, MA and Spartanburg, SC – AFL introduced the newest member of its fiber inspection family, FOCIS WiFi, at the BICSI Winter Conference and Photonics West in early February. The newest version of AFL’s industry-leading fiber inspection solution provides wireless connection of an inspection probe to a customer’s Android or IOS phone or tablet.

Designed for the well-connected workforce, field installation and maintenance personnel can now view images, save and verify standards compliance using a free app on their own devices. AFL’s leading pass/fail analysis is now combined with the incredible processing power of a phone or tablet, providing a pass/fail indication in less than one second.

“Demonstrations at BICSI and Photonics West were well-received. We showed FOCIS WiFi to customers who kept asking us to do it again,” said Lee Kellett, director of product marketing for AFL’s test and inspection division. “Field and maintenance personnel usually wait several seconds for inspection equipment to evaluate the connector against the standard and report pass or fail. With the new FOCIS WiFi, results appear in less than one second!”

AFL introduced the FOCIS system in 2012 and in early 2013 introduced FOCIS PRO, a system which combines a palm-sized touch-screen tablet, DFD1 Digital FiberScope and AFL SimpleView PRO analysis software to provide the inspection and analysis power of current laptop and probe solutions.

In late 2013, FOCIS PRO was recognized by the Broadband Technology Report (BTR) Diamond Technology Reviews (“the Diamonds”) awards program which recognizes top products and solutions available to the broadband-cable industry.
