AFL Volunteers Support Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition, Present Grant

Spartanburg, SC – A team of AFL associates volunteered time with Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition (SHRCC), an organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties, and victims of sexual assault in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. Volunteers helped prepare the Thrift Store for additional inventory by cleaning, sorting and moving large pieces of furniture.

At the end of the project, Steve Ferguson, SHRCC board member and vice president of sales for AFL, presented a donation of $1,500. Made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program, the volunteer effort is known as an ACT (AFL Community Team) project where AFL associates gather to provide a service as well as a non-designated grant.

“AFL believes in giving back to the community and it’s more than by grants,” commented Ferguson. “We want our associates involved, to see firsthand the need in the community and to respond. By providing hands-on support and time, we learn where and what the need is and can respond accordingly as both individuals and a local company.”

Many times victims of domestic violence must leave their homes quickly with nothing but the clothes on their back. Given these circumstances, clients of SHRCC are able to shop at the Thrift Store at no charge. Sales from the public go directly to support SHRCC’s programs.

AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that provides grants, sponsorships, employee engagement projects, disaster relief and more. For additional information on AFL and its community initiatives, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
