AFL Associates Volunteer at Greer Relief’s Christmas Shoppe

Spartanburg, SC – AFL associates volunteered at Greer Relief to begin the process of preparing for this year’s Christmas Morning Shoppe, a program that provides an opportunity for parents to shop for gifts for their children. Descending on the old Greer Citizen building on Victoria Street, more than 30 volunteers cleaned, painted, sorted and stocked the building so that “shoppers” can easily find gifts. Additionally, volunteers decorated for Christmas leaving the building ready for the program to begin.

“Greer Relief is so integral to the community that we wanted to do something that would make a huge difference for them,” commented Steve Polidan, general manager for AFL. “Spending time helping them prepare for one of their busiest seasons helped ease a burden. What might have taken them several days to complete, we were able to complete within one full day.”

AFL supplemented the volunteer efforts with a $1,500 grant made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program. Greer Relief Executive Director, Caroline Robertson, provided tours for the volunteers so they had a better understanding on how their operations work and what a person might go through when they come to them for help.

“We sincerely appreciate the time and financial support from AFL. They truly believe in this community and making a big impact in their own back yard,” said Robertson.

Greer Relief exists to transform neighbors in need to neighbors who thrive by providing services to eliminate poverty and help neighbors overcome barriers for success. Greer Relief is making a change in how gifts are distributed. With its Christmas Morning Shoppe, parents will be able to shop for gifts, making selections themselves for a more personal touch, and then wrapping them onsite.

AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that provides grants, sponsorships, associate engagement projects, disaster relief and more. For additional information on AFL and its community initiatives, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
