AFL Supports Turning Point in its Mission to Eradicate Domestic Violence

Monroe, NC and Spartanburg, SC – AFL awarded a $5,000 grant to Turning Point, Inc., an organization that supports victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse by providing safe shelter, advocacy, prevention and social change. The grant was made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program and will provide shelter supplies, supportive counseling and transportation, and supplement children’s activities.

“The services we provide helps victims and their children build self-esteem, become self-sufficient and move into safe, violence-free homes and break the cycle of violence,” explained Ashley Lantz, executive director for Turning Point. “This grant will help greatly toward our commitment to turn our community away from domestic violence.”

With services for both children and adults, Turning Point is the only domestic violence shelter in Union County. Along with providing shelter and counseling, Turning Point clients are taught computer skills and interviewing skills to enhance employment opportunities. Additionally, the children’s program teaches youth skills to interact without violence, thereby stopping violence before it begins. All programs are designed to reduce homelessness due to domestic violence and increase self-sufficiency.

“Turning Point is instrumental in our community in the fight against domestic violence and child abuse,” commented Seneca Mullins, executive director of enterprise services for AFL. “AFL’s support reinforces our commitment to stand by our community and support the greatest needs.”

AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that provides grants, sponsorships, associate engagement projects, disaster relief and more. For additional information on AFL and its community initiatives, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
