AFL Family and Friends Light the Night with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
28/10/2013
Spartanburg, SC – AFL and its associates donated over $12,300 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in support of their annual Light the Night® Walk. This is the second consecutive year in a row that AFL has rallied behind LLS to support its mission. AFL’s team, Remmission², was named by the sons of two AFL associates, Sam Brown and Justin McConnell. Both young men were this year’s Honored Heroes for the Light the Night campaign. Sam and Justin have Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and are now in remission.
“This event is personal to the AFL family—we know the parents and we know their children,” said Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. “Their strength and courage has impacted all of us and we want to show our support. This is just one small way we could give back and help find a cure for these diseases.”
Money donated to the non-profit organization funds therapy and treatments for blood cancer patients, and stays in the upstate of South Carolina.
Last year, AFL’s Community Outreach Program donated $2,500 for the Light the Night Walk while associates rose over $7,000. This year, AFL set a goal of $10K and reached the goal with a corporate donation of $5,000 and with AFL associates and supporters raising over $7,000. To celebrate this achievement and support the Honored Heroes and their families, over 60 AFL associates gathered at Furman University to participate in the Light the Night Walk.
AFL donations to nonprofit organizations are made possible by the company’s Community Outreach Program. Through this program, grants are awarded, scholarships are given to outstanding students, trees are planted through the Take Root Program, financial aid is provided to victims of tragedy and much more.
