AFL Presents $20,000 in Community Outreach Grants
24/03/2014
Spartanburg, SC – AFL presented $20,000 grants to four nonprofit organizations in Canada, Georgia, North Carolina and Delaware. Made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program, the grants support AFL’s continued efforts to positively impact our communities.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Canada was the recipient of a $10,000 community outreach grant that supports type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF funds research in three areas—cure, treat and prevent. Through the JDRF Canadian Clinical Trial Network (JDRF CCTN), solutions for accelerating management, care and ultimately the cure of T1D are being addressed.
Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity® received a $5,000 grant to support construction of a new home. Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need, partner with Habitat by providing 250 “sweat equity” hours and demonstrate an ability to pay a mortgage. Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity has a goal to complete three new homes, rehab two homes and complete six home repair projects in 2014.
Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County is the recipient of a $2,500 grant to support the Alumni Support Group and Tool Lending Library, a program that provides courses to help homeowners achieve financial stability through learning to budget and complete simple home repairs on their own.
Lastly, the Union County Community Shelter received a $2,500 grant for its Promise Partner Housing Stabilization program. The shelter works to end homelessness in the surrounding community, enabling the homeless to become stable, productive contributors to the community by becoming self-sufficient.
AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that provides grants, sponsorships, employee engagement projects, disaster relief and more. For additional information on AFL and its community initiatives, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
