AFL Presents $9000 to United Way Affiliates

Belmont, NH and Spartanburg, SC – Associates with AFL’s Test & Inspection division donated $9,000 to two United Way affiliates through its annual United Way campaign. Granite United Way received a $7,000 donation and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley received a $2,000 donation. These donations were made possible by AFL associates in Belmont, New Hampshire and Lowell, Massachusetts as well as AFL’s Community Outreach Program which supplemented donations.

“United Way is a fundamental part of our outreach program,” commented Linda Heney, customer service manager for AFL and United Way campaign coordinator. “Each year we are overwhelmed by the support of our associates and their willingness to give back to their community.”

Using the Star Wars movie as its theme, the annual campaign kicked off with a companywide meeting that provided an opportunity for each associate to learn more about United Way. Kevin Conway, resource development operations manager from Granite United Way spoke to associates about the various programs supported locally. Additionally, an agency representative from Laconia Area Community Land Trust spoke with associates about the organization’s goal to provide affordable housing and financial education to families in need and how United Way impacts them.

Employee donations at these two locations increased by 10 percent over the previous year while the number of donors remained constant. Additional AFL locations in the United States participated in an annual campaign with similar results.
