AFL Volunteers Award $14,750 to Organizations Worldwide

Spartanburg, SC – July 26, 2016 – AFL associates awarded $14,750 in grants to nonprofit organizations through its Volunteers Choose program, an initiative that allows associates who have volunteered for a company-sponsored outreach program in the previous year to vote for an organization of their choice to receive this annual award. AFL companies in South Carolina, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Washington, Mexico and the United Kingdom presented grants.
“AFL volunteers have a tremendous impact worldwide,” said Corie Culp, community relations manager at AFL. “These grants are just one way to thank our associates for the time they give. They’re making a difference in our communities by providing meaningful, tangible results.”
In Spartanburg, SC, AFL associates presented $7,500 to the Hope Center for Children and $2,500 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate. The Hope Center for Children is an organization that assists in building strong, healthy and stable families through providing a safe environment and breaking the cycle of child abuse. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate provides programs and resources to children after school in hopes of increasing a child’s sense of belonging, influence and usefulness.
Bomberos de Nuevo Leon A.B.P. in Monterrey, Mexico was the recipient of a $1,850 Volunteers Choose award. The organization provides free 24-hour service throughout the year to aid in emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, water rescue and chemical contingencies.
AFL associates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire donated $1,050 to the Belknap House, a homeless shelter that extends help to families in need, especially during the colder months when women and children are at risk. The Belknap House also provides educational opportunities and resources to help families in becoming self-sufficient.
Light Brigade® associates in Washington presented Make-A-Wish® Alaska and Washington with a grant for $500. Make-A-Wish is an organization that grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.
Lastly, AFL associates in Milton Keynes, UK awarded the Milton Keynes Community Foundation with $1,150. This Foundation aims to strengthen communities throughout the Milton Keynes area by awarding grants to smaller charities and groups, as well as larger well-known groups in hopes of meeting the immediate needs of the community and to build opportunities for the people for many years to follow.
