AFL Recognized by United Way for Annual Campaign
25/06/2017
Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optic cable, accessories and equipment manufacturer, was recognized by United Way of the Piedmont with three awards for its annual corporate campaign. AFL received the top award for Outstanding Employee Giving ($150K - $200K), having set a personal record during the campaign with a 37 percent increase in the number of donors and a 20 percent increase in the number of employee donations over 2016.
Additionally, AFL received the Outstanding Campaign Committee Award for demonstrating exceptional teamwork resulting in increased associate per capita giving, and the Campaign Spirit Award, awarded to companies whose associates exemplified the highest level of team spirit during their campaign.
This year’s United Way campaign theme was “Be Someone’s Hero.” Associates were invited to a kick-off session where they viewed a video about SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition, a United Way funded agency that provides services to victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties and victims of sexual assault in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. The video not only provided insight into SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition but also into United Way of the Piedmont and their support of SHRCC plus other agencies in the community.
“To see our associates overwhelmingly support this campaign and for some to increase their giving is a testament to the commitment of our associates and their understanding of United Way’s impact in the community,” explained Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. “The donations from our associates and AFL are going to great causes and will ultimately make a difference for future generations.”
Associates in Spartanburg, AFL’s headquarters, presented $237K to United Way of the Piedmont. AFL companies throughout the United States including North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Washington participated in local campaigns and collectively contributed an additional $30,500 to United Way organizations in their states, bringing the United Way campaign total to $267,500. AFL companies worldwide also participated in a giving campaign and generated $22,500 to organizations in Canada, Europe, Australia and Mexico.
